IZONFEST CANOE RACE CLUB HOLDS 2026 CANOE RACE EXHIBITION AT KING ABRAHAM FARMS (KAF), IGBOGENE-YENAGOA, BAYELSA STATE
As part of events marking the new year the IzonFest Development Foundation inc. held her 2026 CANOE RACE EXHIBITION at the waterfront of King Abraham Farms (KAF), Igbogene-Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
The event which took place on the 1st of January 2026 saw enthusiastic participants competing for prizes and consolation rewards in a very keenly contested competition. The prizes which were set as 1st Prize - 15,000, 2nd Prize - 10,000 and 3rd Prize - 5000, with popular Niger Delta cuisine Bole (Roasted plantain), Roasted Fish and Fresh Palmwine as consolation prizes.
The races were divided into three categories such as SINGLE DASH RACE, DOUBLE DASH RACE AND DOUBLE OBSTACLE COURSE RACE regulated with timer stop watches by the judges and referees, with support from the linesmen, with the participants with the lowest time record emerging the winners.
The event which attracted excited spectators was packed with high passion outdoor entertainment and beautiful side attractions such as Monopoly games and Chess for children, and saw Mr. Keme from Ekeremor Local Government Area as overall best performer and clinched the 1st Prize with his partner Ms. Blessing D. Bounvita to go home with the 1st Prize by finishing the race in a record time of 1m:13s in the single Dash Race and 1m:02s in the double dash race with Ms. Blessing D. Bounvita. Mr. Peter and Godknows emerged 2nd place winners, while Inengimote and Mike took the 3rd position.
The participants who were obviously very excited took turns to appreciate the organizers for the innovative competition and expressed gratitude to God for making them winners from the first day of the year.
The organizers, IzonFest Canoe Race Club and the management of KAF expressed joy that the event was such a huge success and revealed that the sports would begin to enjoy monthly Challenge editions to be held in the same venue, and offer opportunities for new participants to challenge the set records.
The coordinator of the event Mr. Abraham O. Aniso, a native of Odi community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State while address said King Abraham Farms (KAF) is a private farm under the management of A O ANISO ENERGY SERVICES, while IzonFest Development Foundation Inc. is a registered NGO which has held several editions of this competition until their brief break because of COVID 19 restrictions. They have returned with a more exciting package and invites all canoe race enthusiasts to join them in promoting indigenous canoe racing as a peculiar and unique outdoor sports of the riverine communities of the Niger Delta region.
