LIBERATION MOVEMENT POLITICAL PARTY CHALLENGES ELECTION OF PDP COUNCILLORSHIP ASPIRANT OF WARD 7 IN SAGBAMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA IN THE JUST CONCLUDED LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCIL 2019 ELECTION

Barely few days after the conduct of the controversial Local Government Council election in Bayelsa State, the Liberation Movement as registered political party in Nigeria which was amongst parties that fielded candidate to contest against the ruling political party in the state for elective officers at the ward level in Bayelsa State political history. Speaking with the Liberation Movement political party State Chairman over the weekend, our correspence gathered that the party was preparing its lawyers to challenge the declaration and announcement of the PDP's Councillorship candidate as the winner of Saturday's council election.
The party, according to the Chairman, believes that the PDP did not obtain victory at the polls because there was no polls. The State Chairman claims that he was right there at Sagbama local government heardquaters at the BYSIEC designated election materials distribution center when he witnessed firsthand, how the PDP aspirant Mr. Peter Benamiasia Koripoma and ten (10) indigenes of Ward 7 from Elemebiri and Asamabiri community in Sagbama Local government area of Bayelsa State got hold of sensitive and nonsensitive materials assigned to ward seven (7) and scampered to waiting vehicle and made away to Toru-Orua, community of the executive governor of Bayelsa State and concocted results for the election, which were submitted to BYSIEC for announcement.
The Chairman further added that he couldn't believe that the all mighty PDP will stoop so low to hijack election material in an election against the Liberation Movement, a party which was fairly new in Nigeria politics, especially in Bayelsa State where they claim to have conquered the entire state. He decried the desperation with which the PDP wants to remain in power and said he could not understand why they have refused to use legitimate means to achieve same.
Also speaking with our correspondence, Mr. Tuebi Sapere-Obi a native of Elemebiri community in ward 7, owner of Teoet Island Resort, TuLoud records and State Organizing Secretary (SOS) said that he could not believe that the PDP, after the number of years they have dominated the Nigeria politics, still can't follow laid down election guidelines to achieve success at the polls in an election certain. He said that the candidate of the PDP never for once visited any of the communities or settlements in the ward to can verse for vote during the campaign season before the election. He says, it shows that the current rank and file of the ruling party are only self-centered politicians who do not have any regard or sense of responsibility towards the communities they wish to lead. "As political leaders, if you are not in touch with your roots and cannot picture them in your imagination during your campaign, you may likely deny the people their legitimate developmental opportunities".
Both men concluded that there was need to change the narrative and they believe they have what it takes to lead Ward 7 into greater prosperity. They there vowed that they will take their claims to the Election tribunal as aggrieved party and candidate and ensure they reclaim the stolen mandate, and the Nigeria police force arrest each of the election materials hijackers to and result fabricators for criminal prosecution.
It turns out that all may not be well with the PDP and the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission (BYSIEC) over the election, and it seems that there is more to be expected in the days to come. As there is currently a crisis among the three major communities of Elemebiri, Ekperiwari and Asamabiri about an earlier agreed PDP zoning formula, agreed upon by the communities to ensure even distribution of which community should produce the Councillor in sequence. The SOS hinted that the breach of that zoning formula in the communities is what has led to this stand-off between the Liberation Movement political party and the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP). Stay with us.
