LIVING FAITH CHURCH AND PASTORS DRAGGED TO COURT OVER REFUSAL TO PAY LEGAL FEES AND DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER OF LAWYER IN BAYELSA
Rural Peoples' Assembly newsroom correspondence Aisha Danjuma has received information from the Director General of Community Law Centre, Barr. Aniso O. Abraham that the lawyer has dragged the Church and Two of its pastors in Akenpai branch, Yenagoa, Baylesa State to court over complaints bothering on refusal by the Church to pay the legal fees of the resident pastor's residence Pastor Joseph Olamife comprising of a 4 bedroom duplex which the church secured for the Pastor when he was posted to the Akenpai branch of the Church.
Interestingly, alongside the allegation of refusal to pay legal fees, the Church's assistant pastor and church administrator was also dragged to court for alleged defamatory statements made by him against the lawyer who is managing the property.
According to Barr. Aniso O. Abraham he was forced to file the action against the pastors and the Church after series of failed attempts to perfect the transaction between his client and the church over the rentage of the property due majorly to the poor attitude of the Church representatives involved in the matter. He stated that despite all efforts to resolve the impasse amicably, the Pastor and Assistant pastor, as well as some individuals who described themselves as the Church board failed, refused and neglected every attempt to see reasons with him, but rather resorted to attacking and desparaging him over his honest desire to do his job.
The lawyer stated that he couldn't believe that so called me-of-God could utter such slanderous statements credited to the assistant pastor Mr. Lawrence Gregory, and when the matter was reported to Pastor Joseph Olamife, he wasn't any better, as he ignorantly and negligently pointed accusing fingers at others.
He said even the Church board and legal adviser were no better, because when the opportunity came for them to address the issues raised by him as a lawyer in-charge of the property where the resident pastor resides, they didn't even know their left from their rights, choosing instead to look for non-existent excuses.
That this was the reason why the lawyer had to approach the multi-door court to intervene and call the church and it's staffers to Order.
The matter which is slated to come up on Wednesday, 29 November, 2023 at the Bayelsa State High Court Multi-Door Arbitration Centre and all the parties have been duly served with the summons to appear in person to answer the allegations made against them accordingly even as the suit seeking to order the payment of N250,000.00 as legal fees and N2,000,000.00 for defamation of character.
