BREAKING NEWS: MR. KEMECY HARRY YERI OF ELEMEBIRI COMMUNITY ARREST COMMUNITY YOUTH PRESIDENT AND 10 OTHERS FOR ALLEGED ASSAULT, ATTEMPTED MURDER AND TORTURE

Reports reaching the news desk of Rural Peoples' Assembly has it that one Mr. Kemecy Harry Yeri, a former councillorship aspirant under the defunct Liberation Movement (LM) in Bayelsa State has alleged that an attempt was made on his life when sometime in April, 2022 a mob of youths believed to be hired by the PDP and led by the community youth president Ms Oyinbunua Rose Ekumoh attacked him bearing dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, Daggers, Rods/Pipes and Planks and injured him severely as he sustained a machete cut to the knee and neck, and several bruises all over his body.

According to Mr. Kemecy Harry Yeri who is also currently standing trial for threatening and injuring on Nathaniel Gideon sometime in February, 2022 at the magistrate court siting in Sagbama, while giving his statement to the police at Sagbama division of the Nigeria Police Force stated that he did not know the reason behind the unprovoked attack by the youth president who presided over his attack and tied him up with twine and blindfolded him, before hauling in boat. That it was the intervention of passers-by that saved his life and forced the Youth President to spare his life, as she was advised to report the matter to the police.

That despite several efforts to settle the dispute, the over zealous youth president and her cronnies have refused to have the issue settled, instead she insists that Mr. Kemecy Harry deserves the treatment he received from her and the mob, because he had fought and injured someone in the community under her watch as youth president, and she was not going to relent until she and her sponsors have had their way. 

Enquiries by our correspondent Miss Timi Ronald of the Rural Peoples' Assembly media department who spoke to a member of the community on condition of annonimity reveal that the Nigeria Police has opened a full scale investigation into the allegations by Mr. Kemecy Harry Yeri as more suspects named in the police complaint statement are to be arrested in the coming weeks, and the names of 10 individuals from the community have been invited for questioning on their role in the alleged attack on Mr. Harry on that faithful day. 

It was also learnt that there are high profile individuals from the community who are PDP members who are bent on eliminating Mr. Harry before the coming 2023 elections because they are afraid he and his supporters may prevent them from having their way in the elections if he is not removed from the scene.

On whether attempts have been made by the parties to seek alternative route of resolving the impasse, it was learnt that attempts have been made but failed even as the youth President and her allies have demanded a fine ranging from N100,000 to N700,000 to be imposed on Kemecy Harry over the fight and injury in the community in February, 2022 because a weapon was allegedly used even when the community constitution states that the fine is N20,000. 

Nathaniel Gideon a native of Kogi state, and tenant of Mr. Kemecy Harry's father, Mr Franklin Yeri and lives in the apartment without paying any rent, said he had forgiven Mr. Kemecy for injuring him in February, 2022 and the injury had healed, even as the community members and family members of Harry have been very supportive in his recovery process, but he's worried that the Youth President has continued to pressure him to do a case against Mr. Harry. He  said himself and Kemecy usually work together and hopes that the parties will find a common ground and ensure the two cases are laid to rest.

Patriotism Advancement and Community Orientation Network (PACON), a non-governmental organization on Monday, 9th September, 2019 has warned against corrupt practices during the conduct of the gubernatorial election in Bayelsa and Kogi state respectively.
