AUTHOR OF 'AGAINST THE TIDE', MRS. ANISO YERI HELEN HOSTED BY NIGERIA LITERARY SOCIETY FOR THE MONTHLY READING, POETRY, CONVERSATION & BOOK SIGNING ON SATURDAY 29TH OCTOBER, 2022
In commemoration of the International Day Of The Girl Child, Nigerian Literary Society (NLS), Reading Association Of Nigeria And English Language Teachers Association Of Nigeria (ELTAN) plays host to Mrs. Aniso, Yeri Helen author of the literary masterpiece, the book titled "AGAINST The TIDE" for the monthly Reading, Poetry, Conversation & Book Signing.
The event which was held at Alliance Francaise, 20 Herbert Macauley Street, Old GRA, Port Harcourt, Rivers on Saturday 29th October, 2022 saw representatives of both associations and student guests from the Rivers State College of Education and other institutions, authors and young writers in attendance, amongst others. The book in focus was "Against the Tide" by the author selected in line with the day's theme; International Day Of The Girl Child.
Mrs. Aniso Yeri Helen who read out excerpts from the book gave an enchanting rundown of how the main character Idubamo against all odds made her way to secure an education for herself in a society where the girl-child is grossly marginalised and suffered enormous neglect, even when her male siblings were given the opportunity which they hardly appreciated. This is a classic story of eco-feminism told by a woman who grew up in Elemebiri community in Sagbama Local Government of Bayelsa State in Nigeria's oil rich but deprived Niger Delta region.
This months edition of the event had personalities like the organiser DAVID CHUKWUEKE, PROF. BERE KEN-MADUAKO, PROF. HELLEN A-OKUJAGU as special guests and TONBARI C. MENE as Moderator. While DICKSON ALEXANDER YOUNGMAN was the Anchor. Highpoint of the ocassion was the signing of autographs and photograph with the attendees.
